We are looking for a gifted and innovative mechanical engineer that has a thorough understanding of all principles related to mechanical design and a talent for hands on work. Experience with automation, precision mechanisms, fluidic systems, and/or MEMs is desired.

This position will support R&D and process improvement efforts by creating and maintaining process equipment required for the manufacturing of products created with Microfabrica’s unique MICA Freeform technology. This position will also support new product initiatives by participating in concept generation, detailed design & analysis, and application testing for components and systems utilizing MICA Freeform manufacturing capabilities

Responsibilities

Lead the development, design and support of automation systems, fixture designs, and existing sub-assemblies for production tools and R&D development

Participate in concept generation and brainstorming activities in support of new product and process initiatives.

Good understanding of control systems and relationship between software programs and hardware requirements, ability to read and modify existing software programs

Interface with vendors for all equipment, components, materials, software, drivers, and general API

Create 3D models and drawings according to industry standards for machine shop fabrication, bill of materials, and related documentation

Ownership of complete systems, able to perform testing, troubleshooting, and tasks related to data collection, root cause analysis, and other automation activities

Leading or managing basic/simple project scope, requirements, specifications, timelines, and documentation

Education & Training

BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minor degree, concentration, or specialty interest in control systems or software engineering

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 5 years relevant work experience.

3D CAD proficiency, preferably with SolidWorks.

Understanding of GD&T, mechanical drawing standards, and design for manufacturing, experience with micron level precision and accuracy

Experience with software programming and control systems for customized automation and robotic equipment, preferably C#, C++, python, or other machine language API

Familiarity with precision motion systems and components including linear/rotary motors, encoders, air bearings, PLCs, switches, air/vacuum pumps, etc

Able to handle small projects alone with minimal supervision, but also work well with other engineers on large projects within a team environment

Good hands-on skills, ability to understand project goals to design and build a complete system from the ground up

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with designing highly precise mechanisms (micron level accuracy).

Familiarity with precision motion systems and components including linear motors, encoders, air bearings.

MEMs or semiconductor equipment experience.

Proficiency with FEA software like SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS.

Demonstrated ability to design and troubleshoot automation and motion control systems.

Experience with data collection and analysis with software tools like JMP or Minitab.
